What We Believe

What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of GOD.

All scripture is breathed of GOD and is profitable for teaching, correction, rebuke, and training in righteousness, so that the man of GOD may be equipped for every good work. | 2 Timothy 3:16

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from GOD as they were carried along by the HOLY SPIRIT.  |  2 Peter 1:20-21

GOD’s word is truth.  | John 17:17

For the word of GOD is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and SPIRIT, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. | Hebrews 4:12

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. | Romans 15:4

The Power and Authority of GOD’s Word

GOD’s word is eternal, it stands firm in the heavens. | Psalm 119:89

GOD’s words are true. | Psalm 119:142b,151,160

All GOD’s commands are trustworthy. Psalm 119:86 and fully trustworthy. | Psalm 119:138b

GOD’s laws are right and forever right. | Psalm 119:137b,138,144a

All of GOD’s precepts are right Psalm 119:128, all His commands are righteous. | Psalm 119:172

These words were not just idle words, they are your life. | Deuteronomy 32:4.

GOD’s word gives light and understanding. | Psalm 119:105,130

GOD’s word directs our footsteps. | Psalm 119:133

GOD’s commands make us wiser than our enemies. | Psalm 119:98

Keeping GOD’s statutes makes you blessed. | Psalm 119:2

GOD’s word strengthens us when we are weary with sorrow. | Psalm 119:28

GOD’s law sustains us. | Psalm 119:175

We find comfort in GOD’s laws. | Psalm 119:50,52

GOD does good to us and preserves our life according to the promise of HIS word. | Psalm 119:25, 37-38, 65, 107, 116, 149, 154, 156, 170

GOD’s word helps a young man keep his way pure. | Psalm 119:9

We should hide GOD’s word in our heart that we might not sin against HIM. | Psalm 119:11

We believe there is one GOD, eternally existent in three persons – the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT.

But the HOLY SPIRIT is also called GOD. HIS name is “the SPIRIT of GOD” | Genesis 1:2 HE too possesses the attributes of deity and performs the works of deity. While HE is the SPIRIT who process from the FATHER  | John 15:26 HE is at the same time called “the SPIRIT of CHRIST.”  | Romans 8:9 HE is coequal with both the FATHER and the SON. Peter clearly viewed HIM as GOD when he said to Ananias, “Why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the HOLY SPIRIT?…You have not lied to men but to GOD.  | Acts 5:3-4 If the FATHER , the SON, and the SPIRIT all bear the names of GOD, possess the attributes of GOD, and perform the work of GOD, then there is no alternative but to acknowledge that our ONE GOD exists in three persons.

We believe in the deity of LORD JESUS CHRIST, in HIS virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death through HIS shed blood, in HIS bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the FATHER, and personal return in power and glory.

HIS virgin birth

The birth of JESUS CHRIST took place in this way. HIS mother Mary had been promised to Joseph in marriage. But before they were married, Mary realized that she was pregnant by the HOLY SPIRIT.  | Matthew 1:18

HIS sinless nature

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet HE  did not sin | Hebrews 4:15

This is the disciple which testified of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.  And there are also many other things which JESUS did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. | John 21:24-25

We believe that we are saved by grace alone through the atoning work of JESUS the only begotten SON of GOD.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of GOD—not by works, so that no one can boast. | Ephesians 2:8-9

He that believeth on HIM is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten SON of GOD.  | John 3:18

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Therefore, when CHRIST came into the world, he said:

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.”

Then I said, “Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, my GOD.”

First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of JESUS CHRIST once for all.

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,he sat down at the right hand of GOD, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made HOLY.

The HOLY SPIRIT also testifies to us about this. First he says:

“This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the LORD.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”

Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts
I will remember no more.”

And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most HOLY Place by the blood of JESUS, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of GOD, let us draw near to GOD with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of GOD. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of GOD underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the SPIRIT of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The LORD will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living GOD.

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of GOD, you will receive what he has promised. For,

“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
and will not delay.”

And,

“But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. | Hebrews 10

HIS vicarious and atoning death through HIS shed blood

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of GOD. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance; character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because GOD’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the HOLY SPIRIT, who has been given to us.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, CHRIST died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But GOD demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, CHRIST died for us.

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from GOD’s wrath through him! For if, while we were GOD’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did GOD’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, JESUS CHRIST, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of GOD be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive GOD’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, JESUS CHRIST!

Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through JESUS CHRIST our LORD.  | Romans 5:5-21

HIS bodily resurrection

Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when JESUS came.  So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the LORD!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in HIS hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into HIS side, I will not believe.”

A week later HIS  disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, JESUS came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then  HE said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see MY hands. Reach out your hand and put it into MY side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My LORD and my GOD!”  | John 20:24-29

After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. | 1 Corinthians 15:6

HIS ascension to the right hand of the FATHER, and HIS personal return in power and glory

After HE said this, HE was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid HIM from their sight. | Acts 1:9

“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things Fbegin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” | Luke 21:25-28

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the HOLY SPIRIT is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the HOLY SPIRIT by whose indwelling the CHRISTian is enabled to live a GODly life.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in CHRIST JESUS, because through CHRIST JESUS the law of the SPIRIT who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, GOD did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the SPIRIT.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the SPIRIT have their minds set on what the SPIRIT desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the SPIRIT is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to GOD; it does not submit to GOD’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please GOD.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the SPIRIT, if indeed the SPIRIT of GOD lives in you. And if anyone does not have the SPIRIT of CHRIST, they do not belong to CHRIST. But if CHRIST is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the SPIRIT gives life because of righteousness. And if the SPIRIT of him who raised JESUS from the dead is living in you, he who raised CHRIST from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his SPIRIT who lives in you.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the SPIRIT you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

For those who are led by the SPIRIT of GOD are the children of GOD.  The SPIRIT you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the SPIRIT you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” >The SPIRIT himself testifies with our SPIRIT that we are GOD’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of GOD and co-heirs with CHRIST, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of GOD to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of GOD.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the SPIRIT, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

In the same way, the SPIRIT helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the SPIRIT himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the SPIRIT, because the SPIRIT intercedes for GOD’s people in accordance with the will of GOD.

And we know that in all things GOD works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those GOD foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If GOD is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom GOD has chosen? It is GOD who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. CHRIST JESUS who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of GOD and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of CHRIST? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of GOD that is in CHRIST JESUS our LORD.  | Romans 8

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of GOD. But by the grace of GOD I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of GOD that was with me. Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

But if it is preached that CHRIST has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even CHRIST has been raised. And if CHRIST has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about GOD, for we have testified about GOD that he raised CHRIST from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then CHRIST has not been raised either. And if CHRIST has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in CHRIST are lost. If only for this life we have hope in CHRIST, we are of all people most to be pitied.

But CHRIST has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in CHRIST all will be made alive. But each in turn: CHRIST, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to GOD the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include GOD himself, who put everything under CHRIST. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that GOD may be all in all.

Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in CHRIST JESUS our LORD. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised,

“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of GOD—I say this to your shame.

But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But GOD gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of GOD, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to GOD! He gives us the victory through our LORD JESUS CHRIST. | 1 Corinthians 15:1-57

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of CHRIST, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.  | 2 Corinthians 5:9-11

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  | Mark 16:16

Then HE will say to those on HIS left, “Depart from ME, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” | Matthew 25:41

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of GOD is eternal life in CHRIST JESUS our LORD. | Romans 6:23

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears MY word and believes HIM who sent ME has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. | John 5:24

We believe in the resurrection of the faithful in a new body that is like our risen LORD’S.

But someone may ask, “How will the dead be raised? What kind of bodies will they have?” What a foolish question! When you put a seed into the ground, it doesn’t grow into a plant unless it dies first. And what you put in the ground is not the plant that will grow, but only a bare seed of wheat or whatever you are planting. Then GOD gives it the new body he wants it to have. A different plant grows from each kind of seed. Similarly there are different kinds of flesh—one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.

There are also bodies in the heavens and bodies on the earth. The glory of the heavenly bodies is different from the glory of the earthly bodies. The sun has one kind of glory, while the moon and stars each have another kind. And even the stars differ from each other in their glory.

It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living  person.” But the last Adam—that is, CHRIST—is a life-giving Spirit. What comes first is the natural body, then the spiritual body comes later. Adam, the first man, was made from the dust of the earth, while CHRIST, the second man, came from heaven. Earthly people are like the earthly man, and heavenly people are like the heavenly man.  Just as we are now like the earthly man, we will someday be like the heavenly man.

What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of GOD. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever.

But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.

Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:

“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank GOD! He gives us victory over sin and death through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the LORD, for you know that nothing you do for the LORD is ever useless.  | 1 Corinthians 15:35-58

Dear friends, now we are children of GOD, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when CHRIST appears, we shall be like HIM, for we shall see HIM as HE is.  All who have this hope in HIM purify themselves, just as HE is pure. | 1 John 3:2-3

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS Church.

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am,and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them. | John 17:20-26
May the GOD who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow CHRIST JESUS, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the GOD and FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. | Romans 15:5-6

AMEN.
