What would you do?

What would you do? January 14, 2024 Speaker: Assistant Pastor Bobby Hsiao Notes Amos 5:24 Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Isaiah 40:3‭-‬5 NASBA voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. 5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Luke 10:25‭-37 NASBAnd behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.” 29 But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Luke 10:25‭-37 NASB30 Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he encountered robbers, and they stripped him and [q]beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31 And by coincidence a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. Luke 10:25‭-37 NASBBut a Samaritan who was on a journey came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34 and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 On the next day he took out two [r]denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.’ 36 Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” 37 And he said, “The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”       Now you know, we use our imagination a great deal to try to determine why the priest and the Levite didn’t stop. At times we say they were busy going to a church meeting, an ecclesiastical gathering, and they had to get on down to Jerusalem so they wouldn’t be late for their meeting. At other times we would speculate that there was a religious law that “One who was engaged in religious ceremonials was not to touch a human body twenty-four hours before the ceremony.” And every now and then we begin to wonder whether maybe they were not going down to Jerusalem — or down to Jericho, rather to organize a “Jericho Road Improvement Association.” That’s a possibility. Maybe they felt that it was better to deal with the problem from the causal root, rather than to get bogged down with an individual effect. But I’m going to tell you what my imagination tells me. It’s possible that those men were afraid. You see, the Jericho road is a dangerous road. I remember when Mrs. King and I were first in Jerusalem. We rented a car and drove from Jerusalem down to Jericho. And as soon as we got on that road, I said to my wife, “I can see why Jesus used this as the setting for his parable.” It’s a winding, meandering road. It’s really conducive for ambushing. You start out in Jerusalem, which is about 1200 miles — or rather 1200 feet above sea level. And by the time you get down to Jericho, fifteen or twenty minutes later, you’re about 2200 feet below sea level. That’s a dangerous road. In the days of Jesus it came to be known as the “Bloody Pass.” And you know, it’s possible that the priest and the Levite looked over that man on the ground and wondered if the robbers were still around. Or it’s possible that they felt that the man on the ground was merely faking. And he was acting like he had been robbed and hurt, in order to seize them over there, lure them there for quick and easy seizure. And so the first question that the priest asked — the first question that the Levite asked was, “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?” That’s the question before you tonight. Not, “If I stop to help the sanitation workers, what will happen to my job. Not, “If I stop to help the sanitation workers what will happen to all of the hours that I usually spend in my office every day and every week as a pastor?” The question is not, “If I stop to help this man in need, what will happen to me?” The question is, “If I do not stop to help the sanitation workers, what will happen to them?” That’s the question. Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge to make America what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make America a better nation. And I want to thank God, once more, for allowing me to be here with you.

When HIS mother Mary was engaged to Joseph but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Ruach ha-Kodesh,And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, made up his mind to dismiss her secretly. 20 But while he considered these things, behold, an angel of Adonai appeared to him in a dream saying, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the Child conceived in her is from the Ruach ha-Kodesh. 21 She will give birth to a son; and you shall call HIS name YESHUA, for HE will save HIS people from their sins.” Galatians 4:4When the time had fully come, ELOHIM sent HIS SON, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights as SONS Isaiah 52:14Just as there were many who were appalled at HIMHIS appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human beingand HIS form marred beyond human likeness Philippians 2:6-8Who, though existing in the form of ELOHIM,did not consider being equal to ELOHIM a thing to be grasped. But HE emptied HIMSELF—taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of human and being found in appearance as a man.HE humbled HIMSELF—becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Just THANKFUL

Just THANKFUL November 26, 2023 Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carole Hulslander Notes Sam 20:14-15Show me unfailingkindness like that of theLORD as long as I live,so that I may not be killed, and do not ever cut off yourkindness from my family-not even when the LORDhas cut off every one ofDavid’s enemies from theface of the earth 2 Samuel 9:1-12David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake 2 Samuel 9:1-12The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show ELOHIM’s kindness?”Ziba answered the king 2 Samuel 9:1-12There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.”  “Where is he?”the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar. 2 Samuel 9:1-12So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, fromthe house of Makir son of Ammiel. John 7:37-38On the last and greatest day of the festival, Yeshua stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Anointed to Serve

Anointed to Serve November 19, 2023 Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carole Hulslander Notes Luke 4:18-30The Spirit (ruach) ofthe Lord (ha Adonai)is on me, because he has anointed Me to proclaim good news to thepoor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free to proclaim the year of theLord’s favor.” 20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and satdown. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing Luke 4:18-30YESHUA said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to ME: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell ME, ‘Do here in YOUR hometown what we have heard that YOU did in Capernaum.’” Luke 4:18-30Truly I tell you,” HE continued,“no prophet is accepted in theirhometown. 25 I assure you that therewere many widows in Israel inElijah’s time, when the sky was shutfor three and a half years and therewas a a severe famine throughoutthe land. Luke 4:18-30Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian Luke 4:18-30All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove HIM out of the town, and took HIM to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw HIM off the cliff. 30 But HE walked right through the crowd and went on HIS way. Peter 2:4-10As you come to HIM, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by ELOHIM and precious to HIM— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to ELOHIM through YESHUA MASHIACH. 6 For in Scripture it says Peter 2:4-10See, I lay a stone in Zion,a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in HIMwill never be put to shame.” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe Peter 2:4-10But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, ELOHIM’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of HIM who called you out of darkness into HIS wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of ELOHIM; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. John 10:27MY sheep hear MY voice, and I know them, and they know ME!” Romans 12:6-18We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully Corinthians 2:9-10 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—  the things ELOHIM has prepared for those who love HIM—these are the things ELOHIM has revealed to us by HIS SPIRIT (RUACH).The SPIRIT (RUACH) searches all things, even the deep things of ELOHIM.
